Biography & Campaign Analysis

2026 race

Beaudion, a businessman, activist and former South Dakota state trooper, was the only candidate in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Mike Rounds and won the nomination unopposed on June 2, 2026.

He left the race on August 4, 2026, so the general election has no Democratic candidate.

Rounds, who is seeking a third term, won the Republican primary with 75.8 percent of the vote and faces independent Brian Bengs, a lawyer, Navy and Air Force veteran, and the Democratic nominee in the 2022 Senate race.
