2026 race

Amanda Hollowell, a political organizer, is the Democratic nominee for Georgia's 1st congressional district, which is based in the southeast corner of the state and includes Savannah.

The seat is open because the Republican incumbent, Buddy Carter, announced on May 8, 2025, that he would run for the U.S. Senate. In the eight-candidate Democratic primary, Hollowell finished second with 24.7% of the vote behind retired attorney Joyce Griggs, who received 34.5%.

She then won the runoff against Griggs by 53.0% to 47.0%. In the general election on November 3, 2026, Hollowell faces Republican Jim Kingston, an insurance salesman who won his party's primary with 52.4%.
