2026 race

Jim Kingston, an insurance salesman and son of former U.S. representative Jack Kingston, is the Republican nominee for Georgia's 1st congressional district, which is based in the southeast corner of the state and includes Savannah.

The seat is open because the Republican incumbent, Buddy Carter, announced on May 8, 2025, that he would run for the U.S. Senate in 2026.

Kingston won the six-candidate Republican primary with 52.4% of the vote, ahead of Chatham County commissioner Patrick Farrell with 17.2% and Kandiss Taylor with 12.6%.

In the general election on November 3, 2026, he faces Democrat Amanda Hollowell, a political organizer who won her party's nomination in a runoff.
