Career
Drazan, a Republican, won the open 39th district seat in the Oregon House in 2018 following the retirement of Bill Kennemer, and she was reelected in 2020.
On September 16, 2019, she was selected as minority leader, a post she kept until November 30, 2021; in that role she used parliamentary tactics to block legislation backed by the Democratic majority.
She resigned from the House on January 31, 2022, to run for governor, winning the 2022 Republican primary with 23% of the vote against eighteen other candidates and losing the general election narrowly to Democrat Tina Kotek.
In 2024 she won the Republican nomination for the 51st House district by defeating incumbent James Hieb, was unopposed in November, and returned as minority leader in 2025.
On October 23, 2025, county commissioners appointed her to the 26th district seat in the Oregon State Senate, vacated by Daniel Bonham.
2026 race
Drazan announced her second bid for governor on October 27, 2025, one week after her Senate appointment. She took 41% of the vote in the May 19, 2026, Republican primary to win the nomination. Her opponent in the November 3, 2026, general election is Kotek, who is seeking a second term and won the Democratic primary with 84%. The contest is the first rematch for governor in Oregon since 1978.
