2026 race

Cindy Burbank, a retired pharmacy technician, entered the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Pete Ricketts after pastor William Forbes filed in that primary, and the Nebraska Democratic Party, which had endorsed independent candidate Dan Osborn, backed her bid.

Secretary of State Bob Evnen removed her from the ballot on March 17, 2026, after a complaint from the Nebraska Republican Party; a district court judge dismissed her lawsuit on March 19, and on March 23 the Nebraska Supreme Court restored her to the ballot, ruling that Evnen had missed the deadline for considering complaints.

She won the May 12, 2026, primary with 89.2% of the vote over Forbes. Burbank filed on July 17, 2026, to leave the November ballot, a step Evnen confirmed on July 21, and endorsed Osborn.
