Biography & Campaign Analysis

2026 race

Brinker Harding, who has represented the 6th district on the Omaha City Council since 2017, is the Republican nominee for Nebraska's 2nd congressional district, which covers the Omaha metropolitan area, including all of Douglas County, Saunders County and parts of western Sarpy County.

The seat is open because Republican incumbent Don Bacon, who was re-elected with 50.9% of the vote in 2024, announced on June 30, 2025, his decision to forgo another term. Former state senator Brett Lindstrom withdrew from the Republican race, and Harding won the primary unopposed with 39,689 votes.

In the general election on November 3, 2026, he faces Democrat Denise Powell, co-founder of a candidate training group, and Libertarian Eric Foreman.
