Born in Tucson, Arizona, in 1964, Daniele Monroe-Moreno relocated to Nevada in 1994. She worked for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and later served as a corrections officer with the North Las Vegas Police Department. She has three daughters, two stepsons and six grandchildren.
Between 2000 and 2002 Monroe-Moreno sat on the North Las Vegas Steering Committee, and from 2011 to 2015 she was second vice chair of the Clark County Democratic Party.
In 2016 she won the Nevada Assembly seat for the 1st district, which includes parts of North Las Vegas, defeating Howard Brean with close to 60% of the vote, and she has also held the position of speaker pro tempore.
In April 2017 she introduced a bill to prohibit private prisons in Nevada; both chambers passed it, and Governor Brian Sandoval vetoed it. In March 2023 she was elected Nevada Democratic Party chair over incumbent Judith Whitmer, becoming the first Black woman to lead the state party.
She has backed a higher minimum wage and more funding for behavioral and mental health programs.
Monroe-Moreno is a declared candidate for mayor of North Las Vegas in 2026, an open race because incumbent Pamela Goynes-Brown is ineligible to run again. The nonpartisan contest held a top-two primary on June 9, 2026, ahead of the November 3 general election. Scott Black, a city council member for the 3rd ward since 2017, is also a declared candidate.
