He was elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2012 with 55% of the vote over Kathy Busch and was re-elected in 2016 over Ali C. Ali with 69%, in 2020 over DFL nominee Sahra Odowa with 62%, and in 2022 over Alicia Donahue.

2026 race
Eric Pratt is the Republican nominee for Minnesota's 2nd congressional district, which covers the southern Twin Cities suburbs, including Burnsville, Eagan and Lakeville.
The seat is open because DFL incumbent Angie Craig ran for the U.S. Senate, a race in which she lost the August 11, 2026, primary to Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan.
Pratt won the Republican primary unopposed with 43,813 votes after U.S. Marine Corps Reserve officer Tyler Kistner and small-business owner Jeremy Westby withdrew.
During the campaign his field director, Austin Brown, resigned after hundreds of social media posts attributed to him, including racist, antisemitic and violent rhetoric, were publicized, and Pratt announced that he had accepted the resignation.
In the general election on November 3, 2026, Pratt faces DFL nominee Matt Little, a former state senator from the 58th district, who won his primary with 47.2% of the vote.
