Background

Mark Baisley was born in 1955 and makes his home in Roxborough Park, Colorado. In 1993 he completed a bachelor's degree at Columbia College in Missouri, with a dual concentration in business administration and computer information systems. Outside politics he has led Slipglass, Inc., an engineering software company, as its president. He and his wife, Maryann, have been married for over 45 years and have four children and seven grandchildren.

Career

Baisley entered the Colorado House of Representatives through the 2018 general election, taking 62.61% of the vote against Democratic and Libertarian opponents in District 39, a seat that covered all of Teller County and part of Douglas County. Voters returned him to the House in 2020.

In 2022 he sought election to the Colorado Senate in the 4th district and won the general election with 60.84% of the vote over his Democratic opponent; his House service ended in January 2023.

In March 2025 he launched a campaign for governor of Colorado in the 2026 election, then on January 5, 2026, he ended that bid and entered the race for the U.S. Senate.

2026 race

The Senate seat is held by Democrat John Hickenlooper, who is seeking a second term in the election on November 3, 2026. Colorado Republicans could reach the primary ballot by petition or by winning 30% or more at the party's State Assembly.

Every candidate used the assembly route, and Baisley was the only one to clear the 30% threshold, which left him unopposed in the Republican primary held on June 30, 2026. On the Democratic side, Hickenlooper took 52.8% that day to defeat state senator Julie Gonzales for renomination.
