Biography & Campaign Analysis
Background
Pat Harrigan was born on June 21, 1987. He graduated from the Francis Parker School and from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in nuclear engineering in 2009. He married Raquel "Rocky" Krivda on September 25, 2010.
Career
After his commissioning as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Harrigan trained as an infantry officer, graduated from Ranger School and served as an infantry platoon leader with the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, deploying to Afghanistan from 2011 to 2012.
He then qualified as a Special Forces officer and, while commanding a Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha in the 3rd Special Forces Group, completed a second deployment to Afghanistan.
He was awarded two Bronze Star Medals and has described the 2020 to 2021 U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan as a primary motivation for running for Congress.
Harrigan first sought a U.S. House seat in 2022 in North Carolina's 14th district, losing to Democrat Jeff Jackson 58% to 42%.
In December 2023 he switched his candidacy to the 10th district, where Patrick McHenry had announced his retirement, narrowly defeated state Representative Grey Mills for the Republican nomination and won the 2024 general election.
He was sworn in to the 119th Congress on January 3, 2025, and serves on the Committee on Armed Services and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.
2026 race
The 10th district includes all of Catawba, Iredell, Lincoln and Yadkin counties, as well as most of Forsyth County. Harrigan, who won the seat with 57.5% of the vote in 2024, took 87.7% in the 2026 Republican primary against Matt Sin, a community organizer and former engineer.
In the general election on November 3, 2026, he faces Democrat Ashley Bell, a physician associate who won the Democratic primary with 47.3% of the vote, and Libertarian Steve Feldman, a research scientist who was the party's nominee for the district in 2024.
