2026 race

Rebecca Bennett, a healthcare executive and former United States Navy aviator, is the Democratic nominee in the 2026 election for New Jersey's 7th congressional district, which encompasses the New Jersey Highlands of Hunterdon and Warren counties.

The seat is held by Republican Thomas Kean Jr., who was re-elected with 51.7% of the vote in 2024.

After placing first at the Somerset County Democratic convention, Bennett won the Democratic primary with 45.3% of the vote, ahead of Tina Shah, a former senior advisor to the U.S. Surgeon General, Brian Varela and Michael Roth.

Bennett faces Kean in the general election on November 3, 2026, in a campaign in which his 117-day absence from Congress, which followed a disclosed depression diagnosis, became an issue.
