Biography & Campaign Analysis

Background

Tracey Mann was born Tracey Robert Mann on December 17, 1976, and was raised on his family farm south of Quinter, Kansas. At Quinter High School he was elected FFA president and student council president in his senior year. He went on to Kansas State University, where he served as student body president, and during his college years he worked as an intern for then-U.S. Representative Jerry Moran.

Career

Tracey Mann first ran for Kansas's 1st congressional district in 2010, losing the Republican primary to Tim Huelskamp; during that campaign he questioned President Barack Obama's citizenship, views he has since renounced.

In February 2018, after Jeff Colyer became governor upon Sam Brownback's resignation, Colyer appointed Mann as the 50th lieutenant governor of Kansas, and Mann was sworn in on February 14, 2018.

Colyer narrowly lost the 2018 Republican primary for governor to Kris Kobach, and he and Mann left office the following year.

Mann ran again for the 1st district in 2020, when two-term incumbent Roger Marshall gave up the seat to run for the U.S. Senate. He defeated Air Force veteran Bill Clifford in the August 4, 2020, Republican primary and then beat Democrat Kali Barnett in the general election with 71% of the vote.

In the 119th Congress he serves on the Committee on Agriculture, where he chairs the Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry, and on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

He is a member of the House Hunger Caucus, the FFA Caucus, the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus, and the Congressional Western Caucus.
