Brad Knott was born on April 17, 1986, in Raleigh, North Carolina, one of six siblings.
His father, Joseph Thomas Knott III, was an assistant United States attorney and served on the University of North Carolina Board of Governors, and his grandfather, Joseph Thomas Knott Jr., was a member of the Wake County Board of Commissioners for twelve years.
Knott attended St. David's School, a private Episcopal day school in Raleigh, earned a bachelor's degree from Baylor University and received a Juris Doctor from the Wake Forest University School of Law. He is married to Joanne Saleeby, and they have two daughters.
In 2016 Knott was hired as a federal prosecutor in the office of the United States attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, where he worked until November 2023. He then ran for the 13th district seat in the 2024 elections. In the Republican primary he finished second with about 19% of the vote behind Kelly Daughtry, who had 27%, and advanced to a runoff. Daughtry later dropped out, leaving Knott as the Republican nominee, and he won the November election.
Knott was sworn in to the 119th Congress on January 3, 2025. He serves on the Committee on Homeland Security, the Committee on the Judiciary, and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. In 2025 he introduced the Tren de Aragua Border Security Threat Assessment Act, which would require the Department of Homeland Security to conduct threat assessments on the Tren de Aragua crime syndicate.
The 13th district includes all of Caswell, Franklin, Harnett, Johnston, Lee and Person counties, as well as most of Granville County and portions of Wake County. Knott flipped the district in 2024 with 58.6% of the vote and won the 2026 Republican primary with 89.9% against Sid Sharma, an accountant.
In the general election on November 3, 2026, he faces Democrat Paul Barringer, an attorney and healthcare consultant who won his party's primary with 59.1%, and Libertarian Steven Swinton, a businessman.
