2026 race

Brian Poindexter is the Democratic nominee in the 2026 election for Ohio's 7th congressional district, which stretches from exurban Cleveland to rural north central Ohio, including Medina, Ashland and Wooster.

He won an eight-candidate Democratic primary with 37.0% of the vote, ahead of former Cuyahoga County executive Ed FitzGerald, the party's 2014 nominee for governor, who took 21.6%.

In the general election Poindexter faces the Republican incumbent, Max Miller, who was re-elected in 2024 with 51.10% of the vote.

Miller has faced calls from state and national Republicans to leave the race over abuse allegations made by his ex-wife, which he denies, and he remained a candidate past the August 8, 2026, deadline for the party to replace him on the ballot. The election takes place on November 3, 2026.
