Biography & Campaign Analysis

Background

Fredrick J. Love studied at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where he took a political science bachelor's degree and a master's in public administration; he later added a postbaccalaureate public health certificate from the UAMS Medical Center. Love spent five years with the Arkansas Foodbank and then worked for Pulaski County, where his last post before leaving in 2023 was director of community services.

Career

In 2004 Love ran for a seat in the Arkansas House of Representatives, losing a three-way Democratic primary in District 35 to Pam Adcock.

When Adcock left the seat, he took 58.0% of the vote in the Democratic primary on May 18, 2010, and 81.8% in the November general election against independent Rick Daes. Redistricting moved him to District 29, where he was reelected unopposed in 2012.

After serving in the House from 2011 to 2023, he moved to the Arkansas Senate in 2023 as the member for the 15th district.

2026 race

Love declared his candidacy for governor in June 2025.

His primary campaign stressed regional economic hubs, preserving the state's Medicaid expansion, ending the school voucher program created by the Arkansas LEARNS Act, and opposing the governor's plan for a new 3,000-bed state prison in Franklin County.

In the March 3, 2026 Democratic primary he defeated Bentonville businesswoman Supha Xayprasith-Mays with 81.0% of the vote. In the November 3 general election he faces Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who is seeking a second term, and Libertarian Colt Shelby.
