2026 race

Mike Lawler is seeking re-election in New York's 17th congressional district, which covers the Lower Hudson Valley, including all of Rockland and Putnam counties, northern Westchester County and a small part of Dutchess County.

After being mentioned as a potential candidate for governor of New York, he announced in July 2025 that he would run for the House again.

He was re-elected with 52.2% of the vote in 2024 and is one of three Republicans in the 119th Congress to represent a district carried by Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

Lawler, who also holds the Conservative Party line, faces Democrat Cait Conley, a former senior advisor to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency who won a five-candidate Democratic primary with 49.6% of the vote.

The two met in a debate broadcast by News12 Hudson Valley ahead of the general election on November 3, 2026.
