2026 race

Robert People, a retired U.S. Army veteran and writer, is the Democratic nominee for Florida's 15th congressional district in 2026. The seat is held by Republican Laurel Lee, who won re-election with 56.2% of the vote in 2024 and is her party's nominee again.

People won the Democratic primary against Chris Irizarry, a retired CIA officer, U.S. Army veteran and vice president of the Pasco Democratic Public Education Caucus, after two other candidates, Darren McAuley and former Hillsborough County commissioner Kimberly Overman, left the race for the 12th district.

People faces Lee in the general election on November 3, 2026, with Angie Boone declared as an independent write-in candidate.
