Ryan Michael Fazio was born on March 27, 1990, in Norwalk, Connecticut, to Michael and Madeline Fazio; his father was a longtime partner at Arthur Andersen and a managing director of Houlihan Lokey.
Raised in Greenwich, he finished Greenwich High School in 2008 and completed an economics B.A. at Northwestern University in 2012. He spent most of his business career in commodities, concentrating on renewable fuels and agriculture, and later became a financial advisor.
He lives in the Riverside section of Greenwich.
Fazio first won a seat on Greenwich's representative town meeting.
He had run as the Republican candidate for the 36th district of the Connecticut State Senate in 2020, and on August 17, 2021, he won a special election for that seat, which Democrat Alexandra Kasser had vacated two months earlier, defeating Democratic lawyer Alexis Gevanter; the result cost Democrats their supermajority in the chamber.
He won reelection over Democrat Trevor Crow in 2022 and, in 2024, over Nick Simmons, who had been Governor Ned Lamont's deputy chief of staff. The 36th district takes in Greenwich along with portions of Stamford and New Canaan.
As ranking senator on the Energy and Technology Committee, he co-authored SB7 in 2023, which required utilities to itemize state program charges on customer bills, and SB4 in 2025, which reduced those charges by over $100 million a year.
Fazio entered the race for governor in 2025. Former New Britain mayor Erin Stewart suspended her campaign the day before the Republican State Convention and endorsed him.
At the convention, held May 16, 2026, at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Fazio won the party endorsement in the first round of balloting, taking about 92% of delegate votes; former New York lieutenant governor Betsy McCaughey took about 8%, short of the 15% needed to force a primary, and endorsed him.
His running mate is Matthew Corey, a small business owner and Navy veteran. In the November 3, 2026, general election he faces Democratic Governor Ned Lamont, who is seeking a third term and won his party's nomination in August 2026.
