Biography & Campaign Analysis

Background

Brian Fitzpatrick was born on December 17, 1973, in Philadelphia and was raised in nearby Levittown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Bishop Egan High School in Fairless Hills in 1992 and from La Salle University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration.

In 2001 he completed both a Master of Business Administration from Pennsylvania State University and a Juris Doctor from the Penn State Dickinson School of Law.

Before entering politics he was a special assistant United States attorney and an FBI supervisory special agent in California, serving as a national supervisor for the bureau's Public Corruption Unit and leading its Campaign Finance and Election Crimes Enforcement program.

His FBI work took him to Kyiv, Mosul and Washington, D.C., and he was embedded with U.S. Special Forces as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Career

Brian Fitzpatrick first ran for Congress in 2016, seeking the open seat of his brother, Mike Fitzpatrick, who retired to uphold a promise to limit himself to four terms.

He won the April 26, 2016, Republican primary with 78.4% of the vote and defeated Democrat Steve Santarsiero with 54.4% in the general election. A court-ordered redistricting renumbered his district as the 1st in 2018, and that year he defeated Democrat Scott Wallace by 51.3% to 48.7%.

He won later terms against Christina Finello in 2020 and Ashley Ehasz in 2022 and 2024, and he is one of three Republicans representing a district carried by Kamala Harris in 2024. The Bipartisan Index ranked him the most bipartisan member of the House in 2024 for the fifth straight year.

In 2025 he was one of two Republicans who voted against the Senate-approved version of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, after opposing the larger cuts to SNAP and Medicaid that the Senate passed.

2026 race

The 1st district is based in the northern suburbs of Philadelphia and includes all of Bucks County and parts of Montgomery County. Fitzpatrick won re-election there in 2024 with 56.4% of the vote.

After his vote against the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, he was expected to face a primary challenge from a more right-wing candidate, but he drew no challengers and won the Republican primary with 100.0% of the vote.

His Democratic opponent in the general election on November 3, 2026, is Bob Harvie, chair of the Bucks County Commission, who won the Democratic primary with 65.1% of the vote over mathematician Lucia Simonelli.
