Background

Ryan Mackenzie was born on August 3, 1982, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the son of Charles and Milou Mackenzie; his mother is a Lehigh Valley-area Republican state representative for the 131st district. He graduated from Parkland High School in 2000 and from New York University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and international business. He obtained a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 2010.

Career

Mackenzie was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2012 for District 134 and, after redistricting, won the District 187 seat in 2022. During the 2023-24 legislative session he was the Republican chair of the Labor and Industry Committee, and he earlier served as majority chair of the House Government Oversight Committee and as deputy majority whip.

After withdrawing from congressional campaigns tied to the 2018 and 2022 elections, Mackenzie announced a run for the 7th district in July 2023.

He won the Republican nomination on April 23, 2024, defeating Kevin Dellicker and Maria Montero, and then defeated Democratic incumbent Susan Wild in the general election.

He was sworn in to the 119th Congress on January 3, 2025, and chairs the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections of the Committee on Education and Workforce, while also serving on the Foreign Affairs and Homeland Security committees.

In the general election on November 3, 2026, he faces Democrat Bob Brooks, president of the Pennsylvania Professional Firefighters Association, who won a four-way Democratic primary with 41.0% of the vote.

Andrew Tupone was ruled ineligible to appear on the ballot as a Green Party candidate and has said he intends to mount a write-in campaign.
