Career

Robin Ficker was a member of the Maryland Bar from 1973 until 2022, when the Maryland Court of Appeals disbarred him after finding that he had intentionally lied to a judge in 2019.

His first case, which sought to end the National Football League's blackout of sold-out home games, went to the Supreme Court of the United States.

He is also known as a sports heckler of opposing teams at Washington Wizards games and as the promoter of a series of ballot initiatives, including a 2016 term limit measure for Montgomery County officials that passed with 69% of the vote.

Ficker has sought office many times since the 1970s. He was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates as a Republican in 1978, served from 1979 to 1983, and lost his re-election bid in 1982.

As the 1984 Republican nominee in the 6th congressional district, he lost to Democratic incumbent Beverly Byron, 65.1% to 34.9%.

His later campaigns included runs for the U.S. Senate in 2000, Montgomery County executive in 2006 and 2018, governor in 2022, and the 2024 Republican Senate primary, which he lost to Larry Hogan.

2026 race

Robin Ficker declared his candidacy in July 2025 to challenge Democratic incumbent April McClain Delaney in Maryland's 6th congressional district, which covers western Maryland and extends into Montgomery County suburbs including Germantown and Gaithersburg.

He won the Republican primary with 41.8% of the vote, ahead of retired U.S. Marine Corps veteran Chris Burnett at 37.4% and Mariela Roca at 20.8%.

In the general election on November 3, 2026, he faces McClain Delaney, who was elected with 53.0% of the vote in 2024 and defeated former U.S. representative David Trone in the Democratic primary with 44.0%.
