Biography & Campaign Analysis
Background
Felix Barry Moore was born on September 26, 1966, in Coffee County, Alabama, and was raised on a farm there. He studied at Enterprise State Community College and then at Auburn University, which awarded him a Bachelor of Science in agricultural science in 1992; while a student at Auburn he enlisted in the Alabama National Guard. In 1998 he set up Barry Moore Industries, a company that hauls waste.
Career
Moore entered elected office in 2010, when he unseated Democratic incumbent Terry Spicer to win a seat in the Alabama House of Representatives, where he represented the 91st district until 2018.
That year he ran for Congress, finishing third in the Republican primary for Alabama's 2nd congressional district behind incumbent Martha Roby and former Representative Bobby Bright.
With the seat open in 2020, he placed second in a seven-candidate Republican primary, defeated Jeff Coleman in the runoff, and won the general election over Democrat Phyllis Harvey-Hall with 65.2% of the vote. He secured a second term in 2022, again facing Harvey-Hall, with 69%.
Redistricting ordered after the Allen v. Milligan decision placed Moore and fellow Republican Representative Jerry Carl in the same 1st congressional district for 2024. Moore won their primary by a narrow margin on March 5, 2024, carried the general election later that year, and has represented the 1st district since 2025. In the 119th Congress he sits on the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on the Judiciary and is a member of the Freedom Caucus.
2026 race
Moore is his party's nominee for the Alabama seat in the U.S. Senate held by Republican Tommy Tuberville, who is leaving the Senate after one term to run for governor. The May 19, 2026, primary went to a runoff after every candidate fell short of a majority, and Moore took the June 16 Republican runoff, receiving 55.8% against businessman Jared Hudson. His general election opponent on November 3, 2026, is Democratic attorney Everett Wess, who won his party's runoff.
