Biography & Campaign Analysis

Background

Clay Fuller was born Clayton McLean Fuller on April 9, 1981, in Brazoria, Texas, and grew up in Helen, Georgia, in a family that has lived in North Georgia since the 1800s. He attended D. W. Daniel High School in South Carolina and then spent a postgraduate year at Cheshire Academy in Connecticut.

After starting at Florida Atlantic University, he transferred to Emory University in 2002 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English literature.

He later earned a Master of Public Administration from Cornell University, a Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University and a Master of Military Art and Science from Air Command and Staff College at Air University.

Career

Fuller served as an officer in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps from 2010 to 2014 and afterwards joined the Air National Guard, where he reached the rank of lieutenant colonel.

In April 2024 he deployed to Qatar for six months as a legal advisor to military operations in support of United States Central Command, returning in December 2024.

His civilian legal career included work as an assistant district attorney for the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit and a White House Fellowship from 2018 to 2019 in the Office of the Vice President and with the Department of Defense.

Governor Brian Kemp appointed Fuller district attorney for the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit in March 2023. Fuller, who had placed fourth in the district's Republican primary in 2020, resigned as district attorney effective January 12, 2026, to run for the U.S. House seat vacated by Marjorie Taylor Greene. He defeated Democrat Shawn Harris in the special election on April 7, 2026.

2026 race

Clay Fuller is seeking a full term in Georgia's 14th congressional district, which is based in the northwest corner of the state. Greene, who had been re-elected with 64.4% of the vote in 2024, resigned on January 5, 2026, and also withdrew from the 2026 Republican primary.

Fuller won that primary with 81.3% of the vote against seven opponents, including state senator Colton Moore, who received 6.7%. In the general election on November 3, 2026, he again faces Harris, a cattleman, retired brigadier general and the Democratic nominee for the district in 2024.
