Career

Before reaching Congress, Frank Pallone served on the Long Branch City Council from 1982 to 1988 and represented the 11th district in the New Jersey Senate from 1984 to 1988, having unseated Republican state senator Brian T. Kennedy in 1983.

After redistricting, his district was renumbered the 6th district, and he has won every election since, most recently defeating Republican Scott Fegler in 2024.

In the House, Pallone defeated Representative Anna Eshoo 100 to 90 in a 2014 secret-ballot vote to become ranking member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce. He later chaired the committee, sponsoring the American Data Privacy and Protection Act, and he is now its ranking member.

He belongs to the Congressional Progressive Caucus and co-chairs the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues. In 2013, after the death of Senator Frank Lautenberg, Pallone sought the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate and lost the August 13, 2013, primary to Newark mayor Cory Booker.
