Biography & Campaign Analysis

Background

Jasmine Clark was born Jasmine Michelle Clark on December 26, 1982, in Atlanta, Georgia. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Tennessee and went on to receive a Doctor of Philosophy in microbiology from Emory University.

Career

Clark is a scientist and works as a senior lecturer at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. As part of her science communication work, she organized the 2019 March for Science in Atlanta. In May 2020 she drew media attention after accusing public health officials in Georgia of "malfeasance" in the way they reported COVID-19 statistics, a charge that the office of Governor Brian Kemp denied.

Clark has represented the 108th district in the Georgia House of Representatives since January 14, 2019. In June 2025 she announced a campaign for Congress to unseat the Democratic incumbent in the 13th district, David Scott. In November 2025 an open records request she filed showed that Scott had skipped voting in six straight elections.

2026 race

Jasmine Clark is the Democratic nominee for Georgia's 13th congressional district, which is based in the southwest suburbs and exurbs of Atlanta. Scott died on April 22, 2026, while running for re-election, and Democrat Everton Blair then won a special election to become the incumbent.

In the Democratic primary in May, Clark won the nomination with 56.1% of the vote, ahead of dentist and Married to Medicine cast member Heavenly Kimes with 21.5% and Blair with 11.6%.

She faces Republican Jonathan Chavez, a former chairman of the Rockdale County Republican Party, in the general election on November 3, 2026.
