Biography & Campaign Analysis

Background

Maxwell Frost was born on January 17, 1997, in Orlando, Florida, to a Puerto Rican mother of Lebanese descent and a Haitian father. He was adopted at birth by Maritza Argibay-Frost, a Cuban immigrant and special education teacher, and Patrick Frost, a Kansas-born musician-producer.

Frost attended Osceola County School for the Arts in Kissimmee, and his nine-member high school band, Seguro Que Sí, performed in the parade at President Barack Obama's second inauguration in 2013.

He later attended Valencia College and spent nearly a decade in the cadet program of the Civil Air Patrol, reaching the rank of cadet major.

Career

Frost began organizing around 2012 with Barack Obama's presidential campaign and volunteered with the Newtown Action Alliance, which was formed after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. In 2016 he survived an incident of gun violence at a Halloween event in Downtown Orlando. He later worked as an organizer with the American Civil Liberties Union, supporting Florida's 2018 Amendment 4, and became national organizing director for March for Our Lives.

Frost announced his candidacy for Florida's 10th congressional district in August 2021.

In the August 23, 2022, Democratic primary he defeated state Senator Randolph Bracy and former U.S. Representatives Alan Grayson and Corrine Brown, among others, and in November 2022 he defeated Republican Calvin Wimbish.

Elected at age 25, he became the first member of Generation Z in the United States Congress when he took office in 2023.

In the 119th Congress he serves on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, and his caucus memberships include the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

2026 race

Maxwell Frost is the Democratic nominee for re-election in Florida's 10th congressional district, which he won with 62.4% of the vote in 2024.

His would-be opponents all left the field: Republican Vibert "Issa" White, a college professor, failed to qualify, Republicans Stuart Farber, Willie Montague and Angie Windhauser withdrew, and Libertarian write-in candidate Brent Lawhon was disqualified.

As the only remaining candidate, Frost is unopposed, and under Florida law both the primary and the general election scheduled for November 3, 2026, were cancelled.
