2026 race

Jim Schwartzel, president of Sun Broadcasting and owner of WFSX-FM, is the Republican nominee for Florida's 19th congressional district in 2026. The seat is open because Republican incumbent Byron Donalds, who won re-election with 66.3% of the vote in 2024, is retiring to run for governor.

Schwartzel won a large Republican primary field that included two former members of Congress from other states, Madison Cawthorn and Chris Collins, taking 29.1% of the vote ahead of former U.S. Department of Commerce advisor Catalina Lauf (22.0%) and former Illinois state senator Jim Oberweis (15.7%).

In the general election on November 3, 2026, Schwartzel faces Democrat Victor Arias, with business manager Seth Haskins declared as an independent.
