John Elleson, a pastor, is the Republican nominee in the 2026 election for Illinois's 9th congressional district, a seat for which Elleson was also the party's nominee in 2018.

The district is based in northern Chicago and the North Shore, including Evanston and Skokie, and is open following the retirement of Democrat Jan Schakowsky, who was first elected in 1998 and re-elected with 68.4% of the vote in 2024.

Elleson won the Republican primary with 48.9% of the vote, ahead of Paul Friedman at 33.6%, Rocío Cleveland at 9.5% and news website publisher Mark Su at 8.1%.

In the general election on November 3, 2026, Elleson faces Democrat Daniel Biss, the mayor of Evanston since 2021 and a former state senator, who won a 15-candidate Democratic primary ahead of journalist Kat Abughazaleh.
