2026 race
Lupe Castillo, a pharmacy technician who ran for Illinois's 4th congressional district in 2024, is the Republican nominee for the seat in 2026.
The district, based in southwest Chicago and the western suburbs of Cicero and Berwyn, is open because Democratic incumbent Chuy García, last elected with 67.5% of the vote, is retiring for health reasons. Castillo was unopposed in the Republican primary, receiving 8,336 votes.
García's chief of staff, Patty Garcia, became the Democratic nominee after García withdrew following the filing deadline, leaving Garcia as the only name on the Democratic primary ballot.
In the general election on November 3, 2026, Castillo faces Garcia, Ed Hershey of the Working Class Party, and independent candidates Chris Getty, the mayor of Lyons, and Lindsay Church, a nonprofit executive.
