2026 race

Riley Owen, a former White House policy analyst, is the Republican nominee for Utah's 1st congressional district in 2026.

Redistricting has redrawn the district around most of Salt Lake County, including Salt Lake City, West Valley and Murray, and left it with no incumbent, since Republican Blake Moore is running in the 2nd district.

Owen became the nominee after Stone Fonua and Dave Robinson, a former Salt Lake County Republican Party communications director, were eliminated at the party convention.

In the general election on November 3, 2026, Owen faces Democrat Ben McAdams, a former U.S. representative from the 4th district who won the Democratic primary with 51.9% of the vote.
