Biography & Campaign Analysis

Background

David Taylor was born on November 16, 1969, in Ohio and graduated from Amelia High School in Amelia, Ohio. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Miami University in 1992, where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1996. He and his wife, Charity, live in Clermont County with their three daughters.

Career

Taylor worked as a part-time assistant prosecutor for Clermont County before taking over as owner of his family's concrete business, Sardinia Ready Mix, in Brown County.

When incumbent Representative Brad Wenstrup announced that he would not seek re-election in 2024, Taylor entered the race for Ohio's 2nd congressional district.

He won the Republican nomination, defeated Democratic nominee Samantha Meadows in the November general election, and was sworn in to the 119th Congress on January 3, 2025.

In the House, Taylor serves on the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, where he is vice chair of the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment, and he is a member of the Republican Study Committee.

In October 2025, after an American flag altered to include a swastika was seen in the background of a staffer's video call from his office suite in the Cannon House Office Building, Taylor said that his office and the United States Capitol Police had begun a coordinated investigation and that the flag had been taken down once the symbol was discovered.

2026 race

The newly drawn 2nd district takes in the eastern Cincinnati suburbs, including Amelia, and stretches eastward along the Ohio River to Athens and Marietta. Taylor, who was elected with 73.50% of the vote in 2024, won the 2026 Republican primary with 75.0% against Bob Carr.

In the general election on November 3, 2026, he faces Democrat Jennifer Mazzuckelli, a homemaker and 2024 candidate for Clermont County commissioner who won her party's primary with 53.3% over educator and administrator Todd Wilson.
