Background

August Pfluger was born on December 28, 1977, in Harris County. His four-times-great-grandfather, German immigrant Henry Pfluger Sr., founded Pflugerville, Texas. Pfluger attended Central High School in San Angelo, Texas, where he played quarterback, and he is an Eagle Scout.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in political science from the United States Air Force Academy, followed by master's degrees in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, in military and operations science from Air University, and in international business and policy from Georgetown University.

He and his wife, Camille, have three daughters and live in San Angelo.

Career

After earning his commission in the United States Air Force in 2000, August Pfluger served 20 years on active duty, flying the Northrop T-38 Talon, F-15C Eagle and F-22A Raptor.

He commanded the 380th Expeditionary Operations Group at Al Dhafra Air Base, deployed to Syria and Northern Iraq, and was promoted to the rank of colonel.

He later served briefly on the United States National Security Council during Donald Trump's first presidency and remained in the Air Force Reserve.

Pfluger resigned from the National Security Council after three months to run in 2020 for the 11th district seat, which Representative Mike Conaway had held since its creation in 2005 and was leaving after eight terms.

Pfluger cleared 50% of the vote in a 10-way Republican primary, winning the nomination in a single round, and defeated Democrat Jon Mark Hogg in the general election. He ran unopposed in 2022 and 2024.

In the House he serves on the Committee on Homeland Security, the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and he is a member of the Republican Study Committee.

2026 race

August Pfluger is seeking a fourth term in Texas's 11th congressional district, which is based in midwestern Texas, including Midland, Odessa, San Angelo and Brownwood, and also includes a thin stretch of the Austin area along the Travis and Williamson county lines.

He was the only candidate in the 2026 Republican primary, receiving 59,885 votes.

His Democratic opponent in the general election on November 3, 2026, is Claire Reynolds, an attorney who won the Democratic primary with 57.6% of the vote against mental health counselor and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Pedro Ruiz.
